Official French proficiency test

TCF Canada Exam Preparation

The TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du francais) is one of two French proficiency exams accepted by IRCC for Express Entry and Canadian immigration applications.

What is the TCF Canada?

The TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du francais) is a standardized French language proficiency test administered by France Education International (formerly CIEP). It is officially recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for:

  • Express Entry applications (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class)
  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
  • Canadian citizenship applications

Unlike the TEF, the TCF uses a tiered question format where difficulty progressively increases within each section. This allows the exam to assess a wide range of proficiency levels in a single sitting.

TCF vs TEF — what's the difference?

Both exams are equally accepted by IRCC and produce CLB scores. The TCF uses a tiered format (questions get progressively harder), while the TEF uses a uniform difficulty format. Many students find the TCF slightly more accessible because early questions are simpler. FrenchSprint lets you practice for both exams on one platform.
