3. Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience
Executive and senior management roles across a broad range of sectors — financial services, health administration, education, construction, and transportation — are covered under this category. Candidates must have 12 months of Canadian work experience within the past three years in an eligible NOC code classified as senior management. The category addresses succession planning gaps in industries facing leadership demographic transitions.
4. Transport Occupations
This category takes a broader approach, accepting work experience gained either in Canada or abroad within the previous three years. Eligible roles include air pilots, aircraft mechanics, automotive service technicians, and bus and truck mechanics, among other transport-sector occupations. The 12-month minimum experience threshold applies, and the international experience option makes this category more accessible to candidates who have not yet worked in Canada.
5. Skilled Military Recruits
The most distinct of the five new categories, Skilled Military Recruits targets foreign military personnel who hold a job offer from the Canadian Armed Forces. Candidates must have at least 10 years of military service, hold a two-year post-secondary credential, and have received a three-year employment offer from the CAF. This category reflects the Canadian Armed Forces' stated recruitment challenges and represents the first time a military service pathway has been integrated into Express Entry category-based selection.

By the end of April 2026, Canada had conducted 26 Express Entry draws issuing approximately 71,627 total invitations. Category-based draws continued to dominate the invitation landscape:
- Canadian Experience Class: 9 draws, 34,250 ITAs
- French-Language Proficiency: 5 draws, 26,000 ITAs
- Trades Occupations: 1 draw (April 2), 3,000 ITAs at CRS 477
- Healthcare and other occupational categories: additional draws totalling over 4,600 ITAs
The performance of the French-language category — 26,000 ITAs at CRS scores ranging from 393 to 419, compared to 514–515 for concurrent CEC draws — continues to make French proficiency one of the highest-leverage tools available to Express Entry candidates.
Implications of Expanding Category-Based Selection
Each new category creates an alternative draw track where eligible candidates compete only against other candidates in their category, not against the broader pool. This benefits candidates who may have mid-range CRS scores but hold specific qualifications or work experience that IRCC has designated as a priority.
